Felix is a Latin name meaning "lucky" or "successful". It originated as a nickname for a 1st century BC Roman general and also appears in the New Testament belonging to the governor who imprisoned Saint Paul. Due to its favorable meaning, it became popular among early Christians and was adopted by several popes and saints. Felix has been used in England since the Middle Ages and is more common in continental Europe, with a notable bearer being the German composer Felix Mendelssohn.
