What is Figure of
Speech???
 We use Figures of Speech in
Figurative Language to add
color and interest, and to
awaken the IMAGINATION of
the readers.
SIMILE
 We use simile to compare
two objects of different
kinds which have one
point in common.
 also uses asas and
like to introduce
comparison
 You are as beautiful as
the flower.
- It can mean that she is so
beautiful, smells good, or
blooming.
 John dances like Spongebob.
 The teacher looks like Barack Obama.
METAPHOR
 This is like Simile, but
it compares the
objects into totally
different ideas.
 It is a Simile without
asas and like.
 You are my sun.
 You light up my life.
 Mario has a stone heart.
PERSONIFICATION
 Giving non-living
objects or abstract
things with qualities,
characters, and
abilities of humans.
 The pizza slices dances
with the music.
 Coffee wakes up the donut.
 The bomb runs for its life.
 She runs as fast as the horse.
 You are my sunshine in my life.
 The wind greets me good morning.
 I study like a college student.
 Emma is the apple of my eyes.
 Tables drag me to eat a lot.
ACTIVITY TIME!!!
MECHANICS OF THE ACTIVITY
1. The class will be divided into three
groups.
2. Each group will be given papers with
the words SIMILE, METAPHOR, and
PERSONIFICATIONS on them.
3. The teacher will show sentences and
identify what kind of Figure of Speech
1. I am feeling blue.
2. You are as brave as a lion.
3. My teacher is a dragon
4. The water will not love you
back.
5. Last night, I slept like a log.
6. Your brain is a computer.
7. Ruben was a pig at dinner.
8. The clouds cried with me.
