Flatulence, or gas, is produced by the food people eat and the gas in one's intestines. Certain foods like beans, cruciferous vegetables, sugars, and sugars alcohols can cause gas as they are broken down by bacteria in the gut. The gases produced include hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen. Eating a balanced diet and reducing air swallowed can help reduce flatulence.
