Editor's Notes

  • #2: Hello. My name is Donna Megino-Dizon and today I present to you a business plan about Fluency, an on-demand interpreter and translation service to make communication assistance easy.
  • #3: Fluency is a Language Service: At Fluency, we understand accessibility, quality, and value of communication, which are especially important to customers challenged with barriers in communication, such as cultural differences, emotional differences, disability, and technical interruption. Fluency is a lifestyle app for your smartphone or tablet. Depending on the event, interpreters and translators can be difficult to request and quite expensive. But with Fluency customers have remote access to request through a smartphone; our objective is to make service accommodations convenient and affordable. At the startup stage, our customers will be regional and national. Two industries relevant to Fluency are language services and mobile app development.
  • #4: Language services are one of the top services demanded in 2017; the market size reached over 45 billion US dollars and forecasted to rise to 56.2 billion by 2021 (Statista, 2018).
  • #5: Development of Fluency mobile app is vital to the business. With a growing number of smartphone owners, our services are designed for smartphone users. Smartphones are the remote control of our lives. If you are like me, I check my smartphone every day for something and almost anything, and were starting to see a use for smartphones to lock or unlock our front door (Nandakumar, 2016). With smartphones on the rise, this translates to more people relying on technology. Research revealed 95 percent of Americans own a cell phone of some kind, and 77 percent of Americans are smartphone owners, which is an increase of 35 percent from 2011 (Pew Research Center, 2018). More smartphone users mean more mobile app development. Data forecasts, by 2020 mobile apps will generate around 189 billion US dollars in revenues via app stores and in-app advertising (Statista.com. 2018). Fluency will employ skilled developers and programmers to build an app that delivers quality to connecting and transfer maximum content securely.
  • #6: Anyone can benefit from Fluency. Fluency offers on-demand, real-time connection with an interpreter and translator for services for individuals and businesses. Services options include: Speech-to-text Written documents Sign language Video remote Requests for on-site Fluency will employ skilled and proficient interpreters and translators.
  • #7: Our target customers are primarily mobile users seeking language services that offer value and unique user experience. Fluency will implement social channels into its marketing strategy beginning with Facebook, which has a large mobile audience with 1.74 billion mobile app users (Nagammai, 2017). Facebook will help Fluency achieve startup goals in promoting brand awareness, generating leads, creating customer loyalty, and drive traffic. We also plan to utilize other social channels, such as YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. As for publicity -- at the startup stage, we are not limiting our marketing strategy to mobile or online, we plan to take advantage of free marketing opportunities.
  • #8: Facebook offers many marketing options for business growth. Having an online presence will spread the word to the right audience, communicate with customers, and obtain insights vital in the effort to improve Fluencys overall effectiveness (Osman, 2018).
  • #9: Startup costs to develop Fluency services will be a challenge, however. During our first year activities will serve as our initial test of the business concept, and to allocate appropriately venture capital to manage investments in the business and activities as it moves forward (Dogtiev, 2018). • #10: Fluency will steadily position itself for growth as a small business. As a Christian in business, I am reminded to continue my efforts. And my journey and timeline are guided by our Lord. Our goals to accomplish in a span of 12 months are many and divided into two: business milestones and mobile app development milestones, which both focus efforts to improve customer need and experience and overall business growth.
