Detailed models

It could be said that all models are detailed to a varying degree,
but this category refers to the highly finished model in terms of
process and material, as well as detail.
Often large in scale, these models are usually realistic in color or
a blend of realistic color and stylized elements.
These examples were extremely decorated and fully animated;
even the signage was accurately reproduced.
With the assistance of lighting, at this size, the model can
represent the essence of the scheme and makes for a highly
impressive presentation.

Landscape models

Sometimes a project can affect a large area of land, or a major
part of the project might be its proposed treatment.

This is the purpose of landscape models, to visually represent
the scheme and its landscape, either in isolation or within the
context of the surrounding area.

This realistic approach, in terms of contours, planting, land and
road alterations, is ideal for planning.

Typically, where this type of model is used, the sites are fairly
sizable - public sector buildings, housing developments -
therefore the impression needs to be accurate one where
implementation of the scheme will affect the general public
and/or local residents.

White models

A white model can make a design appear almost sculptural.

Far from detraction, the absence of color allows the structure
and lines of a scheme to speak for themselves, with the white
creating a certain honesty.

This type of model is popular for competitions and the early
stages of a project, where strength of design needs to be a
focus.

The white part needn't be the focus, however. Using white for
the off-site region and a limited or specifically designed palette
for the scheme is another approach to this style.

Where color is used, it tends to be dark or reflective to create a
high-contrast for greater impact.

Conceptual

Although a white model might be used at the concept
stage or equally a timber block model, a concept model
is something unique and deserves a category of its own!

Now and again we are asked for something different.

A scheme that hasn't evolved beyond a footprint, a
never-to-built structure for an exhibition, a 3d floor plan
- these all come into the realm of the concept model.

Projects like these are great opportunities for us to take
the idea and purpose, and design a model specifically to
suit.

We offer design consultation for all our models, but with
concept models, we can go that little bit further.

Where form or detail is missing, a diagrammatic
approach can illustrate an idea with the use of bright
color or material variation, and works well to promote
discussion.
