Henry and Christine Laimer
An Austrian couple who moved from Vienna to
Singapore as a second home for 6 years.
Both had experience in the field of logistics.
Witnessed the amount of bread wastage in Singapore
through a local article in the Straits Times.
Felt the need to find a solution to the problem that
would benefit both the needy and the food shops.
Founded Food From The Heart in 2002.
3. Introduction
Christine Laimer
Was the main founder of the project as her husband
supported her.
Began Food From The Heart by persuading many
bakeries in Singapore such as Delifrance and Four
Leaves to donate their unsold bread to them.
Had a strong determination to start this charity
project and managed to recruit about 1000
volunteers within 3 months.
4. Food From The Heart
Aims to reach out to the less-fortunate and brighten
their lives by alleviating hunger through a food
distribution programme and bringing joy through the
distribution of toys and birthday celebrations.
Many programmes have been set up to achieve this
goal such as the bread distribution programme,
food goodie bag programme, birthdays from the
heart, and toys from the heart programme.
Furthermore, self collection centres have been put in
place in order to help provide essential food items
and other rations on a regular basis.
5. Beneficiaries
2 groups of beneficiaries: Welfare homes and needy
families
151 welfare homes receive a daily bread supply from
FFTH
Needy individuals and families often include single
parent families with the second parent either
deceased, serving a jail term or in drug rehabilitation.
Some of them also have family members with costly,
long-term medical issues, or breadwinners that are
unable to work due to illnesses or death.
