AREA STATISTICS
? From the point of view of collection of
AREA statistics , states in INDIA are
classified in to 3 broad categories :
? 1st CATEGORY : STATES & UTs
which have been cadastrally surveyed
and Land Use Statistics are built up as a
part of the land records maintained by
the Revenue Agencies.
3
LAND RECORD STATES
? 14 STATES AND 4 UTs covering 86% of
total Reporting Area are in this
category.
? These are Andhra Pradesh, Assam

area statistics are collected on the basis
of sample surveys. These states accounts
for 9% of total Reporting area.
? These are 3 Permanently Settled States
viz. West Bengal, Orissa & Kerala and
4 NE States (Arunachal, Nagaland &
Tripura) including Sikkim where no
elaborate arrangements of collecting

STATEMENT OF VILLAGE
HEADMAN COVERING 5% OF
TOTAL REPORTING AREA.
? These are Hilly districts of Assam,
Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Goa &
UTs like A&N, Daman & Diu,
Lakshadeep.
6
WHAT IS EARAS ?
? Establishment of an Agency for Reporting
Agricultural Statistics (EARAS) is a
centrally sponsored scheme (CSS) with
50:50 sharing basis by GOI & State Govt.
? G.O.I. launched the scheme in 1975-76
for the states where system of collection of
agricultural statistics is WEAK & there
was no regular agency doing field to field
inspection in each season.
7
EARAS
? EARAS introduced in 1975-76 in
ORISSA & KERALA and in W.B the
scheme started in 1981-82.
? Later on TRIPURA, NAGALAND,
ARUNACHAL PRADESH & SIKKIM
was included.
8
EARAS IN Tripura
? In 1994-95, we received fund for the first
time.
? It took 10 years to start the scheme in
our state.
9
OBJECTIVE OF THE SCHEME
? Selection of 20% Revenue Mouzas at
random so that entire state can be covered
in a 5 years period and complete field to
field enumeration of area under crops in
each season in the selected mouza.
? To obtain average yield & production
estimates based on CCEs.
? To provide the estimates of Land Use
Statistics.
10
BROAD ACTIVITY
? In selected Mouza, Dag Number wise
Plot to Plot survey of to be done in each
season.
? Crop production to be estimated
through Crop Cutting Experiments
? Land use statistics to be obtained for all
the Dag Number of selected Mouza.
