Pete and Mima went on a cruise aboard a large World War II liberty ship that could hold hundreds of people and had sailed around the world. They describe being on the forward starboard side of the ship and identify the bow, stern, starboard, and port sides. They saw tugboats and other ships from the cruise and ask questions about identifying features of the different vessels.

side of the ship. The front of the ship is
called the bow, and the back is the stern.
The right side is called the starboard side
,and the left is the port. It’s very POSH.
10. What is Pete DOING?
When we come see you in December, we are
going to drive from Baltimore to Los Angeles.
We will sleep in our van at night. Does our bed
look comfy?
11. When we get to Los Angeles, we will stay in this
white house – near your house. You can walk over to
visit us!
