The group has chosen to create a documentary about potatoes that will air on BBC 1 on Sundays at 7:30pm. The documentary will be a mixed-style format including both interviews and cutaways, aimed at an older audience over 30 years old. Research will include interviews with potato farmers, historians, and Spanish chefs to learn about different cultural uses of potatoes. The documentary will have a linear narrative discussing the history and uses of potatoes chronologically, but will also discuss different cultural practices in a multi-branched structure.
2. Topic
ï‚— The topic we have chosen to do our documentary
on is potatoes. As a group we all decided to do this
as we were brainstorming ideas and finally came
up with potatoes.
3. Type
ï‚— We have decided that our documentary will be
mixed as it will include both interviews with
different professionals and cutaways too. It will
not conform to just one type of documentary.
4. Style
ï‚— Our documentary is aimed at an audience of people over
the age of 30 and because it is directed at an older
audience we will keep it formal. In order to make it
relevant we are going to interview different types of
professionals such as, farmers, historians and chefs in
Spanish restaurants to develop ideas about different
cultures. Also, to keep the documentary interesting we
will include music to keep the viewers engaged, cutaways
and archive footage.
5. Channel and Scheduling
ï‚— We have chosen BBC 1 to air our documentary on as our
questionnaire feedback demonstrated that this would be the best
channel for it alongside the target audience. Our documentary will
be shown on a Sunday at 7:30pm as this is relevant to other
programmes on around this time such as, Countryfile because it
focuses on the same topics as our documentary and this show will
inherit our documentary. Also, this channel varies across a wider
and bigger audience which means our documentary would get a lot
of views. We decided on this time to show it because this is when
most people are at home and had their tea and are sitting down to
relax and reach out to quite a mature audience.
6. Target Audience
ï‚— Our audience will be mostly the 30 adults+ as our results
proved that younger adults are not engaged with our topic.
This is much more of an disinterest towards the younger
generation. We will choose to edit and work around this
and make our documentary more likeable towards the
audience we are working with. Our documentary is more
focussed on the older ages.
7. Primary Research
ï‚— For this , we completed and handed our audience a
questionnaire about potatoes in order to engage with our
audience and find out as much as possible. We have
decided that we will be researching Farmers/ any sort of
involvement in the food industry/ Or any sort of food
worker.
8. Secondary Research
ï‚— We will be researching archive material of farmers
working/potatoes being planted/ restaurants serving food.
Or simply anything we can find that relates towards this
topic. Or even commercials that involve some sort of potato
endorsed aspect. This is so that our audience is more
engaged with the information we use/more aware.
9. Narrative structure
Our documentary will be linear as we will talk about
the history of potatoes and how they were sued in the
past. This will run in chronological order and will
also be somewhat multi-stranded as we will also be
talking about the different uses of potatoes and how
they are sued differently in other cultures.
10. Outline of content
The outline of our content will include interviews with
people like farmers who grow potatoes and sell them
on; the history of potatoes and how they are used
within different cultures.
11. Resource requirements
For our documentary to be completed to a good
standard, the items we will need to use are an HD
camera, tripod, microphone, interviewees, the
correct software to be able to edit the videos and
input archive footage.
