Former Jets Linebacker Receives Probation for Assault, Drug Charges
Charges against former Jets linebacker Bryan
Thomas will be dismissed after he completes a
probation program, thanks to an agreement
reached by Thomas attorney, Joe Tacopina,
and the Morris County Prosecutors Office.
Thomas, who recently left professional football,
was accused of hitting his wife and possessing
drug paraphernalia after officers found items
used to smoke marijuana in his home in late
2012. Thomas probation program, overseen by
the New York pretrial intervention program,
lasts 24 months and requires 100 hours of
community service, random urine tests, and
drug and alcohol counseling.
Thomas wife accompanied him to his court
hearing, and afterward she urged reporters to
not write about the event because it was a
family issue. Tacopina stated that the
Thomases, who have two children, wanted to
keep their family intact and that admission to
the probation program was a great outcome.
Once the longest-tenured member of the Jets,
Thomas stated in 2012 that he was considering
retirement because of a lingering pectoral
injury. He played for the Jets for 11 years.
