Introduction
According to National Building Code of India, building are classified on occupancies,
as follows
ï‚´ Group A- Residential Buildings
 Group B – Educational Buildings
 Group c – institutional Buildings
 Group D – Assembly Buildings
ï‚´ Group E - Business Buildings
 Group F – Merchandise Buildings
 Group G – Industrial Buildings
 Group H – Storage Buildings
 Group I – Hazardous Buildings
Group B– Educational Buildings
ï‚´ Educational buildings are generally used for School, college, or day care purpose.
Minimum provisions for various units,
According to IS-8827-1978
ï‚´ A) For age group(9 years or less) I- IV Standard
i) 40 Students per class
Ii)1.11Sq.m area required per student
ï‚´ For age group (Above 10 years)
i) 40 Students per class
Ii)1.5 Sq.m area required per student.
General sizes of room recommended
(4.5 x 6.0 m, 5.5 x 6.5 m, 6.0 x 7.2m)
For Drawing Hall
Min. area required per student is 3.5 Sq.m per Student.
For Laboratories
Min. area required per student is 3 to 4 Sq.m per Student.
For Teachers Room
Minimum 14 Sq.m Area is Required
Height of Classroom
i) 4.2 m or more for area up to 60 Sq.m
ii) 4.8m or more for area more than 60 Sq.m

Introduction According to National Building Code of India, building are classified on occupancies, as follows ï‚´ Group A- Residential Buildings ï‚´ Group B – Educational Buildings ï‚´ Group c – institutional Buildings ï‚´ Group D – Assembly Buildings ï‚´ Group E - Business Buildings ï‚´ Group F – Merchandise Buildings ï‚´ Group G – Industrial Buildings ï‚´ Group H – Storage Buildings ï‚´ Group I – Hazardous Buildings
  • 3. Group B– Educational Buildings ï‚´ Educational buildings are generally used for School, college, or day care purpose. Minimum provisions for various units, According to IS-8827-1978 ï‚´ A) For age group(9 years or less) I- IV Standard i) 40 Students per class Ii)1.11Sq.m area required per student ï‚´ For age group (Above 10 years) i) 40 Students per class Ii)1.5 Sq.m area required per student.
  • 4. General sizes of room recommended (4.5 x 6.0 m, 5.5 x 6.5 m, 6.0 x 7.2m) For Drawing Hall Min. area required per student is 3.5 Sq.m per Student. For Laboratories Min. area required per student is 3 to 4 Sq.m per Student. For Teachers Room Minimum 14 Sq.m Area is Required Height of Classroom i) 4.2 m or more for area up to 60 Sq.m ii) 4.8m or more for area more than 60 Sq.m
