                                        October 30, 2010

Dear Friends:

On behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia, I am pleased to extend my warmest
welcome to everyone attending Homestretch 20th Anniversary Gala.

I commend Homestretch for your dedication to breaking the cycle of poverty, abuse,
neglect and low self esteem that countless homeless children face every year. Countless children
have benefitted from your much appreciated work. I have no doubt that your work greatly
contributes to our Commonwealth and to the lives of our citizens.

I also want to welcome those of you who have traveled great distances to be here. During

                                                                  t to Washington, DC, puts

Thank you for your contributions, and best wishes on future success.

Nancy Taxsonwife, mother and grandmother of
                          sevenwas Homestretchs first Executive Director,
serving for sixteen years. When Nancy was brought
on by Kieran Sharpe back in 1990, she was working
as a parish administrator for a church in Washington,
DC. Kieran had this idea and went to the county,
says Nancy. We found some money, and the rest
                          is history.

Homestretchs humble beginnings started with a
dream. Like most dreams, it started small, literally in Nancys home. We
were working off my dining room table in the early days, says Nancy. At
one point, Homestretchs eleven employees were occupying four levels of my
house. Nancy likens Homestretchs infancy to having a bull by its tail. In the
beginning they were trying to help five families. By the time Nancy left in 2006,
Homestretch had moved from Nancys house into a building of its own, and
was helping 80+ families.

Nancys childhood in upstate New York and her prior professional experiences
helped prepare her for the life she was about to embark on with Homestretch.
I was born into a household of serviceits second nature to me, says Nancy.
Her first job was as a theatre producer for summer stock/off Broadway. At
that time, Nancy and her husband were the youngest equity producers in
the U.S. Nancys next career opportunity was as the comptroller for a New
York City architectural firm; a position she held for eight years. That was
followed by a stint as an administrator for an Episcopal Church. For 23 years,
Nancy was the music director for a church in Washington, DC. Her combined
personal and professional experiences created the perfect mix for her position
as Homestretchs first Executive Director.

Im forever grateful for the opportunity to serve Homestretch and its clients,
says Nancy. It was a great opportunity for me to do a serviceit was a big
thing that was handed to me. We took hold of it and did it. Homestretchs
success and legacy can be traced to a number of wonderful people, but Nancys
enthusiasm, passion and dedication will forever be part of its foundation. Like
most service organizations, theyve celebrated great successes and learned
from numerous disappointments. Homestretch will continue to celebrate
successes thanks to the wisdom of its first leader. Never give upalways
keep positive cases in your mind and keep moving forward.

Nancys desire to serve others less fortunate hasnt waned. She has spent
the past three years as President of the Board of Falls Church Community
Service Council.

Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime adventure to Italy to join in on the fun of the annual Carnival in Venice. First mentioned in history around
       th
the 12 century, this, the most famous of Venetian festivals, celebrates the arrival of
spring and the end of the Lenten season. Elaborate costumes and masks dress the city
in a rainbow of color and pageantry during the last days of winter.

Your trip is not an event for spectators, but for those that truly want to experience this most
famous of festivals with full Venetian costumes and masks, a gondola ride thru the
canals of Venice in costume, and participation in special events. Party the night
away with masqueraders from around the world at one of the biggest parties in the world!

Before your visit to Venice, you will start your trip in Rome visiting some of the worlds
most famous sites including the Coliseum, the Vatican and more. Then it is on to Venice

  • 20. Nancy Taxsonwife, mother and grandmother of sevenwas Homestretchs first Executive Director, serving for sixteen years. When Nancy was brought on by Kieran Sharpe back in 1990, she was working as a parish administrator for a church in Washington, DC. Kieran had this idea and went to the county, says Nancy. We found some money, and the rest is history. Homestretchs humble beginnings started with a dream. Like most dreams, it started small, literally in Nancys home. We were working off my dining room table in the early days, says Nancy. At one point, Homestretchs eleven employees were occupying four levels of my house. Nancy likens Homestretchs infancy to having a bull by its tail. In the beginning they were trying to help five families. By the time Nancy left in 2006, Homestretch had moved from Nancys house into a building of its own, and was helping 80+ families. Nancys childhood in upstate New York and her prior professional experiences helped prepare her for the life she was about to embark on with Homestretch. I was born into a household of serviceits second nature to me, says Nancy. Her first job was as a theatre producer for summer stock/off Broadway. At that time, Nancy and her husband were the youngest equity producers in the U.S. Nancys next career opportunity was as the comptroller for a New York City architectural firm; a position she held for eight years. That was followed by a stint as an administrator for an Episcopal Church. For 23 years, Nancy was the music director for a church in Washington, DC. Her combined personal and professional experiences created the perfect mix for her position as Homestretchs first Executive Director. Im forever grateful for the opportunity to serve Homestretch and its clients, says Nancy. It was a great opportunity for me to do a serviceit was a big thing that was handed to me. We took hold of it and did it. Homestretchs success and legacy can be traced to a number of wonderful people, but Nancys enthusiasm, passion and dedication will forever be part of its foundation. Like most service organizations, theyve celebrated great successes and learned from numerous disappointments. Homestretch will continue to celebrate successes thanks to the wisdom of its first leader. Never give upalways keep positive cases in your mind and keep moving forward. Nancys desire to serve others less fortunate hasnt waned. She has spent the past three years as President of the Board of Falls Church Community Service Council.
