An estuary is an area where freshwater from rivers meets and mixes with ocean saltwater. Estuaries contain saltwater, freshwater, chemicals, and sediments. They provide habitat for many types of fish, birds, and other wildlife. While estuaries cover a small portion of the earth's surface, they are important ecosystems that can be protected by properly disposing of trash and joining conservation organizations.
