Surveys and Interviews ¡° My definition of a garden city is having a variety of flowers like walking into a garden. However, Singapore is lacking of such point.¡± ¡° There is a lack of color. All I can see is green, mostly.¡± ¡° Too much of concentration in city area which can be seen by tourist, too intentionally, should also emphasize in neighborhood areas.¡±
Big Idea Has the nation done enough to be called a Garden City? Color Test: Green 93%, Others 7% Garden City = Green ? Government effort vs. Citizens¡¯ effort Which is more important?
Conclusion More can be done by Government to improve on the Garden City theme Introduce more variety of colorful plants Citizens can play a bigger part in creating the Garden City
Problems Even if we encourage each residential zone to create their own garden, the garden area will be locked in order to protect the plants from being destroyed by people. With gardens being locked, visitors would not be able to view the beautiful gardens, such that it will not be a public garden but a private one Netting is used to prevent invasion of insects and the impact from heavy rain
Objectives A public garden whereby anyone can visit anytime. It will not be locked and even if one is not from the residential area, they can also participate effectively in gardening as well To let people know the purpose of residential garden and erase their mindset of destroying the plants
