Question no.33
Syed Nawaz
Question?
• The figure below shows the pressure measured in a well
different depths, AB is gas cap, B is gas-oil contact and C is
water-oil contact. Density of gas in gas cap is 2kg/m3, oil density
is 800 kg/m3 and water density is 1000kg/m3. The difference
between pressure at point D and point B (Pd-Pb) is
________X(10^5) N/m2. (Use g=9.81 m/s2, write answer with
one decimal place)
Understand the question…
They are asking us to find the difference between
pressure at point B and point D.
So, first we can approach this problem in 2 ways
1- we can calculate first the pressure at D and
then substracting it with pressure at B point.
2- we can calculate by dividing the section into 2
region i.e., BC and CD, and then we can add the
2 pressures
Given data
• Acceleration due to gravity
= 9.81 m/s2
• Density
• Water =1000 kg/m3
• Oil = 800 kg/m3
• Gas = 2 kg/m3
• Depth BC = 50 m
• Depth CD = 40 m
Formula used
Solution
Thank you
