- The author is training to run her first marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of friends and family who have been affected by blood cancers, including a friend's husband who passed away from leukemia.
- Through the Team in Training program, the author has learned about proper running form, nutrition, hydration and training techniques to prepare for the 26.2 mile marathon.
- The author has improved her health and confidence through training and has raised over $5,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ahead of the Rock 'n Roll Marathon in San Diego on June 1st.
2. I am not an athlete I got involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society after my friend Loris husband, Jim, passed away on December 27, 2006. He had Leukemia.

8. Thanks to Team in Training I have learned About shoes, socks, stretching, nutrition, hydration, form and to train regardless of cold, snow, rain and wind About Body Glide and Biofreeze for I have sweat, chaffed and ached in places I didnt know I had
9. I have learned About the purpose of Powerbars, Cliff bars, Shot Bloks, Power gel (ick), Gu, Gatorade, Propel and good old water How to successfully fundraise as a team and as an individual
10. I have also learned that I can hang with the younger crowd at a fundraising Pub Crawl Not all night though!
11. I am not an athlete, yet I am walking more than 20 miles per week now in preparation for the marathon on June 1.
12. I have improved my health, increased my confidence, raised more than $5,000 and shared my new-found knowledge of blood cancers with many.

To everyone who responded to my requests for donations, assisting me in my fundraising efforts for LLS, I cant thank you enough and Im proud to represent you at the Rock n Roll Marathon in San Diego. All of you will be walking along side of me in spirit on June 1. (Feel free to give me a kick if I start to lag)
14. To me its not a race its a personal challenge to walk 13.1 miles in 3 遜 hours.
15. I was only looking to make a difference in the life of at least one person affected by a blood cancer. And in the process of doing that, I made a difference in mine. The power of giving is amazing, isnt it? Im not looking for special recognition.
