Castor and Polydeuces were twin brothers from Greek mythology. Polydeuces' mother was Leda, Queen of Sparta, who was seduced by Zeus disguised as a swan. The same night, Leda also slept with her husband King Tyndareus. As a result, Leda bore two sets of twins: the immortal Polydeuces and the mortal Castor. The twins were inseparable and both excelled as warriors. During a fight with another pair of twins, Castor was killed, greatly upsetting Polydeuces. Taking pity on the twins' bond, Zeus granted them immortality together in the night sky as the constellation Gemini.
