Perseus was the son of Zeus and Danaë. He completed several heroic tasks, including slaying the Gorgon Medusa and rescuing Andromeda from a sea monster. Perseus married Andromeda and they had seven sons and two daughters together. Their descendants went on to rule Mycenae. According to Greek mythology, Perseus' story explains the origins of the constellations that bear his name and those of his wife and mother-in-law in the night sky.
