Central-Eastern Africa is a physically and historically diverse region. It spans from the Congo Basin in the west, across the Great Rift Valley which contains Mt. Kilimanjaro, to Lake Victoria where the Blue and White Nile rivers begin in the east. Early kingdoms like the Kongo Kingdom arose in Central Africa, while Eastern Africa experienced European colonization and the slave trade. Modern Central and Eastern Africa continue to develop with challenges around issues like water access and human rights.
