Geotextiles are technical textiles designed for use in civil engineering projects to provide separation, filtration, reinforcement, protection or drainage. There are two main types - woven and nonwoven. Woven geotextiles are strong, UV resistant and prevent biological degradation. Nonwoven geotextiles are ideal for roads, buildings and landfills. Geotextiles perform basic functions like filtration, separation, reinforcement and drainage. They are used in applications such as roads, bridges, dams and retaining walls to improve soil strength at a lower cost than traditional methods. Geotextiles can also replace hydroseeding on slopes prone to erosion.
