Gestalt psychology was founded by Kurt Koffka, Max Wertheimer, and Wolfgang Kohlar. Wolfgang Kohlar conducted an experiment on insight learning where he placed a rat inside a cage with two sticks that could be crossed to form a bridge to escape. This experiment demonstrated the Gestalt principle that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
