This document describes a gesture-based wheelchair control system for physically disabled people. The system uses MEMS tilt sensors to detect hand gestures, with the sensor values sent to a microcontroller. The microcontroller then controls the wheelchair motors to move in directions corresponding to the tilt register values, allowing disabled users to steer the wheelchair left, right, forward, and back through hand gestures detected by the MEMS sensors.

1. GESTURE BASED WHEEL CHAIR FOR PHYSICALLY
DISABLED PERSON
ABSTRACT
This project is to develop a wheel chair control which is useful to the physically disabled
person with his hand movement or his hand gesture recognition using MEMS technology. In
MEMS we have Tilt register. When we change the direction, the tilt registers values are
changed and that values are given to microcontroller.
Depending on the direction of the MEMS, microcontroller controls the wheel chair directions
like LEFT, RIGHT, FRONT, and BACK.
