Pilot studies were conducted at a former landing strip site to test toxaphene remediation treatment technologies. Testing demonstrated up to 70% removal of toxaphene in soil over 41 days. The U.S. EPA provided effective treatment recipes involving amendments like fertilizer added at 2% of soil weight. A full-scale treatment plan was proposed, involving excavating contaminated soil, adding amendments, and monitoring for 3 to 8 months until treatment is complete.
