Glass is 100% recyclable and can be melted down and reused indefinitely. The recycling process involves separating glass by color, removing labels and tops, cleaning and breaking the glass into small pieces, and melting it in a furnace at 1500属C along with 50% recycled and 50% raw glass. In Spain, glass recycling efforts began in the 1970s and 1980s with organizations established to promote selective glass collection and recycling. Data is provided on the tonnage of glass collected for recycling by province in Spain.
