Introduction
Since you are here, it indicates that you already have heard
about golf simulators and might also be a bit familiar with it. I
am presenting this article to make people familiar with every
aspect of golf simulators. Most of the simulator companies
lack the information on their website about simulators and
are only filled with sales letters and doesnt really help the
readers to understand about the system. Here I have tried to
explain everything about it including the features, the use and
the technology.
What are golf simulators?
First thing first, a simulator as you know is a device which
allows you to have the real experience of any activity without
doing it in real but in a virtual setup. Golf simulators also allow
you to play golf on simulated golf courses, i.e. virtual golf
courses without being present on the real course. It does have
its pros and cons but I bet you wont find any better
alternative of playing golf. These sims can be called as true
simulators because you actually play the game as you do in
the real environment as opposed to the simulation games like
truck simulator etc.
The setup: Part 1
Like any simulator, this would also need some physical setup.
Basically we are looking for a setup which would give us the
feeling of actually being present on the course while playing
the game. For this a room with a decent space is needed and
a huge projector screen is installed on one of the walls where
the beautiful courses will be displayed with the use of a
projector mounted on the ceiling. Some people also opt for
curved screen which might increase the realistic factor.
The setup: Part 2
In addition to this you will need a computer system, the
simulator software package and the various sensors which
come with the simulator. Do not forget to carry your golf club
set and balls. The projector part can be excluded if you are
ready to compromise on the realistic factor and would only
use it to practice. Only a computer with a decent monitor is
enough to play and practice this game. Other accessories
required are the hitting mat, tee to simulate real course
conditions and lights for proper functioning of the sensors.
The setup: Part 3
 I would definitely recommend
getting the projector and
screen if you want to enjoy
the detailed golf courses
which come with the package.
Since the setup usually does
not occupy the middle space
and is done on the sides of
the wall, the room can be
utilized for other purposes
when the simulator is not in
use.
The Working - I
Golf sport is all about the players with their clubs and the golf
courses. While playing on simulator, the player part remains
real while the courses get virtual. The simulation software
connects the real shots of the players to the virtual golf
courses using various sensors.
The Working - II
The player starts by hitting the ball from hitting zone. The ball
hits the screen and bounces back. While all this was
happening, the sensors were busy collection all the possible
information from the moment the ball was being hit till the
ball reaches the screen and then providing all the data to the
software to manipulate the distance depending on the various
factors such as speed, spin, angle etc. After the calculations
the screen shows the ball travelling and getting the desired
distance. While it looks like a long process, it hardly takes any
time and you can see the feedback instantly after you hit the
ball on the giant screen without any noticeable delay.
The Working - III
It comes with many real life golf courses like pebble beach
and the courses are built by collection various data from the
real courses using maps and images to make it look like the
actual course. Many players can compete at once. Players can
even compete over internet or a local network.
Features
It is not only a tool to play the game but it also has some
useful features which can be used for analysis of your game.
Some of the common features are video swing analysis, ball
flight analysis, club fitting, ball fitting, stereoscopic 3D game
play and network play. Details about the features can be
found here.

Utility:

game, however there are many more things where it can be
used. Some of the common uses are mentioned below.

 Training
 Business
 Entertainment
Utility: Training
Since it provides so many features like swing angle, ball spin,
speed etc. for analyzing the game , it is the top choice for
most of the golf trainers to train beginners as well
professional players. It is so simple that you can even train
yourself in the absence of trainers.
Utility: Business
Hotels, resorts and club houses can install simulators to
increase the inflow of the crowd and in turn create new
business opportunities. In fact many people also rent
simulators just for their event to attract more people from the
business class as golf is a great attraction for the classes.
Utility: Entertainment
Not everyone aim to become a professional golfer. There are
some people who just want to use it for playing casual game
with friends on weekend. This can easily be installed in home
and offices to simply entertain the guests and employees. Not
