The Technology in Action subcommittee of the Center Technology Committee surveyed Center personnel to collect information on the use of Google Applications for work and personal reasons.

Google Survey of CDLThe Technology in Action subcommittee of the Center Technology Committee surveyed Center personnel to collect information on the use of Google Applications for work and personal reasons.
Purpose:to assess which Google applications garner the most interest and useassess current use of collaborative work spacesfor student collaborative workFor professional developmentor office management tasksto collect ideas for future use so as to evaluate what support maybe needed in the future
General Use:Of the 198 respondents 26% are currently using Google Apps for work-related reasons, whereas87% are using Google Apps for personal activities. 60% have Gmail that is used for both personal and professional reasons.
Work-related use:with students in learning activities and as a tool for course developmentThe primary work-related toolsGoogle Documents (GoogleDocs) Google MapsGoogle CalendarGoogle Scholar, Google Images, and Google Earth.
Personal use:Why did we survey this - to gauge comfort with the tools and to compare usage in a less restrictive environment.more prolific with the use of Google Apps for personal use( 90% of respondents use GoogleApps in their personal space) Same tool preferences as work-related use:Most popular:Google Documents (GoogleDocs) Google MapsNext most popular:Google CalendarGoogle Scholar, Google Images, and Google Earth.
Future visions:The majority are interested in using these tools for course development, with the focus being for student learning activities. One-third of respondents envision using shared spreadsheets to track work one-quarter envision using the tools for administering courses.32% have ideas for using Google Apps in future
