The document provides guidelines for using MLA format, quotes, and block quotes in academic writing. It states that MLA format specifies using 8.5x11 inch paper, double spacing, 1 inch margins, a legible font like Times New Roman, a header numbering pages, and including a works cited page. It provides rules for using quotes, such as using quotes for interesting or emotional text but not facts. Punctuation for quotes depends on whether they are at the end of a sentence or include an in-text citation. Block quotes are for passages over 4 lines and are indented without quotation marks.

Do not use when the quote is a fact
Bad Example:

4. Punctuation location rules
Use double quotes for word-for-word quotation

In the middle of a sentence or a paragraph use a comma.

Dont use quotes when you summarize what someone said.

pass his class it depresses him.

The rules usually is that closing punctuation goes in
side the quotes

The exception is when we have an in text citation
related to the quote in MLA. Here, the period
goes after the citation.
