Gravity is an invisible force that attracts all matter in the universe. Sir Isaac Newton discovered gravity after observing an apple fall from a tree. Gravity makes things move by pushing or pulling on them with a force that decreases with distance from the attracting mass. Gravity holds you down on Earth by attracting your body mass to the planet's mass, and allows astronauts to jump higher on the Moon where gravity is weaker due to the smaller lunar mass. While mass stays the same anywhere, weight varies with gravitational force in different locations.
