To get to Greektown, we
 Walked to Granville station
 Rode the Red Line towards 95th, getting off at Jackson
 Switched to the Blue Line headed towards Forest Park and got
off at the UIC-Halsted station
 Got out of the station, took a left turn and walked until we
reached the renowned Greektown Sign across the street from
where we were standing (about .4 mi from the station). It was
also across the street from the National Hellenic Museum.
History
 In 1840 Greek sailors started immigrating to Chicago to work
on the thriving Lake Michigan in hopes for a better life
 As time went on more Greeks started to establish their life in
Chicago
 Greek town started out around Harrison, Blue Island, and
Halstead but as time went on the neighborhood around them
started to be developed
 The Eisenhower Express way and the University of Illinois at
Chicago disrupted the neighborhood a little ways north but they
stuck together to form the Greek town we know today
 Greek town is known for their restaurants and created the
famous Gyros
