This document summarizes a presentation on group dynamics, leadership, and influence in second language acquisition contexts. The presentation reviewed literature on group dynamics research in SLA, theories of leadership, and emergent leaders. It then described the mixed methods used in a study investigating student leadership within classroom groups, including questionnaires, observations, and statistical analysis. The results suggested that extroversion and English proficiency did not necessarily predict emergent leadership. The conclusion was that student leadership can impact participation levels but also complicates giving students more autonomy. The reflection notes the small sample size and calls for more research on how group dynamics affect language learning.
