This document divides the electromagnetic spectrum into 7 groups based on their applications: radio waves are used for broadcasting and communications; microwaves are used for satellites and cell phones; infrared rays are used in appliances, remote controls and night vision; visible light is used for optical fibers and photography; ultraviolet rays are in fluorescent lamps and for sterilization; X-rays have medical and engineering uses; and gamma rays are used for medical treatment.
