This document summarizes the development of an innovative mosquito net product. It began with identifying the problem of villagers finding it difficult to sleep outside during rain or due to mosquitoes. A user survey confirmed interest in a product that combines a mosquito net and small roof. Concept sketches and a 3D model were developed showing a tripod-like structure with a detachable mosquito net and waterproof roof. The final product allows villagers to sleep safely outside even during rain.

2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sir Manoj Majhi and
Sir Prasad Bokil for their unwavering and thorough support throughout
the project. Their valuable suggestions and ideas were of utmost
importance.
We would also like to thank our batch mates who in more ways than one,
helped me come up with the final result.
4. INTRODUCTION
? PROBLEM STATEMENT
In villages, people generally prefer sleeping outside during summer.
Due to various reasons like rain, mosquitoes etc. they find to difficult.
We are developing a product, which is a combination of mosquito net
(to protect from mosquitoes) and umbrella (to protect from rain and
sun).
However, the mechanism is different from that of an umbrella.
5. AIM AND OBJECTIVES
? The aim was to redesign a mosquito net which serves as a weather
guard for them and they can have a sound sleep under the sky even if it
is raining.
? The approach was to undertake a user survey related to the problem.
The subjects who were surveyed were villagers . The main aim f the
survey was to see if such a product is really needed . The survey was
user centric .
? Most of the subjects in the survey said that they would strongly
welcome such a product .
6. METHODOLOGY
An appropriate timeline was followed throughout the semester to come up
with the final deliverable.
? Mid Jan- Mid Feb: Problem Identification, Idea Generation
and literature study.
? Mid Feb- Mid March: User Reviews, Generation of concept
sketches.
? Mid March- Early April: Finalizing a model, redesigning.
? Mid March- Mid April: 3D model generation(Google Sketch
Up) of the final product.
7. USER EVALUATION
? A user survey was undertaken for the product. The questionnaire for
the same is mentioned in upcoming slides.
? The survey was conducted on 15 persons with majority of them
agreeing to have faced the problems mentioned earlier at one point of
time or other in their village.
? Most of them were in favor of such a product.

10. RESULT
The following modifications were made to the mosquito net after the user
survey :
? The net was provided with a waterproof cloth at the top to protect from
rain and sun.
? The whole net after installation would look like a small hut. This shape
is so that no water accumulates over the net.
? The MECHANISM/IDEA of the complete product is explained in the
upcoming slides.
11. MECHANISM/IDEA
? The 4 thin steel/bamboo rods are hinged together at a common joint
like the legs of a tripod.
? The mosquito net is stitched inside the square pyramidal shaped roof,
leaving enough space to protect the cot from the rain falling diagonally.
? For installation, each of the rods will have either grooves or small-bowl
like structures where the bamboo sticks could easily .
? The net could be easily opened as a tripod and installed manually on
the cot and be removed and folded together.
12. MECHANISM/IDEA
? A long and thin rope would be coming out of the roof. After installing
the net i.e; arranging the rods in the grooves on the bamboo sticks this
rope is to be pulled and tied to any of the sticks which would tighten the
net and installation will be complete.
? When loosened this rope, then the surface will loose and it can easily be
removed and folded together.
? There would be a small pulley on the top where the rope would be
coming out from for ease of operation.
? This working is shown in the final scaled-down working prototype
submitted.
13. MECHANISM/IDEA
? The net part will be detachable from the roof part. It will be attached
with a welcrow to the roof.
14. OTHER USES WITH SMALL IMPROVISATIONS
? The net can when produced as a full scale model can be provided to the
construction workers who have to make temporary sheds on the
construction site.
? Also, the top waterproof cloth can be made transparent so that the
person sleeping can see the sky and stars or the rain falling over in case
it is raining.
? The net can also be used at daytime to protect from the sun.
? As stated earlier , the net will be detachable and will be attached with a
welcrow to the roof part. So when not in use, the net can be removed
and the roof can be used for water harvesting upside down .
17. MATERIALS USED
? Very thin steel rods (thin bamboo sticks can also be used)
? Water-proof cloth for the top cover.
? Mosquito net.
? Bamboo sticks for installation on the cot.
18. CONCLUSION
The final product delivered solves the problem stated earlier and the
villagers can have a good sleep outside even if it is raining.
Also, the additional uses of the product mentioned in earlier slides adds to
the use of the product and make it multipurpose.
