The yeses which led me to a year in Norway, Uganda, Tanzania, and lots of traveling
January -> May: Norway June -> July: Traveling
August -> September: Uganda October -> November: Tanzania
So you will be away for only 6 months? yes?
Do you want to join the International Student Union? Yes!
Do you want to work with the Millennium Village Project? YES!
Do you want to ride a boda boda? mmm.yes?
Do you like working in development? Yes?
Your supervisor is sick, we dont know what you can do here, but do you still want to come to Tanzania and then figure it out? ...but yes
Do you want to live in a village on a mountain and do action research for an orphan project? YES!
Actually, youve become more like a project manager? I guess yes
18,891 words are a lot. Yes. But its worth it.
Seeing the northern lights and midnight sun The Norwegians becoming really friendly as the sun came out Milking cows and making cheese on the Swiss Alps Going into Kampala City the first time The city when riots happened The wonderful smiles of the children Following two journalists doing a story on the Rwandan genocide
Being on my first safari, rafting the Nile The board members thanking me, receiving gifts (live chicken!) The children being proud of the project Dancing at an initiation ceremony Why do you come here instead of helping your own people? The sinking feeling when we left the slum area to go back to our safe hostel Living with a Tanzania family
Would you do this again? No doubt..YES!
Id rather spend my time working like this more than any other way. Id rather take chances than sit on my hands. Id rather live life like a tourist. Id rather suck up the hard stuff than miss out the fun stuff.
Thank you! Questions?
