Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death globally, causing over 5 million deaths per year including 1 in 10 adult deaths. Banning smoking would create a healthier environment by reducing secondhand smoke deaths of over 35,000 non-smokers annually and make people less likely to take up smoking in the first place. While some argue smoking helps relax and banning it infringes on freedom, reducing the negative health impacts from smoking that affect everyone would overall make for a better world.
