Halloween originated 2000 years ago in Celtic traditions where people would wear costumes on October 31st to avoid being recognized as ghosts. The Irish tradition of carving turnips for light and protection evolved in America to carving pumpkins as Jack-O-Lanterns. Today, children go door-to-door collecting candy while dressed in costumes, carrying Jack-O-Lanterns, and partaking in Halloween traditions that have evolved from ancient Celtic customs.
