Hawaii has many unique geographical features and a rich natural history. The island chain has various climates from tropical beaches to mountainous regions. Though Hawaii has no native land animals, it was a fertile habitat for many endemic plants and sea creatures before human arrival and introduction of invasive species. Polynesians brought crops like sugar cane that were crucial to early Hawaiian civilization, and the islands' isolation allowed unique species to evolve.
