Stephen Hawking gave a TED talk where he discussed some of humanity's biggest questions such as the origin of the universe and existence of alien life. Hawking explained that recent advances in physics have provided insights into the initial conditions of the universe and allowed time to be viewed as a dimension. He asserted that life likely exists elsewhere in the universe and that humanity's survival depends on expanding out into space.
2. Stephen Hawking is the Director of Research at the
Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at Cambridge, an
author of many books such as A Brief History of
Time
He is heralded as one the most brilliant theoretical
physicists since Einstein
3. Questioning the Universe
The questions Hawking proposed are :
Where did we come from?
How did the Universe come in to being?
Is there alien life out there?
What is the future of the human race?
4. Hawking states that until recently, we have had little
idea about the initial conditions for the universe.
5. This division into laws of evolution and initial
conditions, depends on time and space to be
separate and distinct.
Under extreme conditions, general relativity and
quantum theory allow time to behave like another
dimension in space.
6. Hawking states that the universe can in fact
created itself and back this fact up with
observations of the galaxy.
7. We think we have solved the mystery
of creation he says.
Perhaps we should patent the
universe, and charge everyone
royalties for their existence
8. Are we alone in the universe?
He asserts that if life created itself on
this planet, life could very well exist on
other suitable planets in the universe.
9. Hawking states that if we are the only intelligent
beings in the galaxy, we should make sure we survive
and continue.
Our only chance of survival as a species is to look
outward towards space and not inward towards
the planet earth only.
10. Stephen hawking best follows the 3RD
COMMANDMENT
Thou shalt reveal thy
curiosity and thy
passion.
12. Hawking, receives a 5 in dynamism because to hear one
of the greatest minds of our time speak on a subject
that is imperative to the survival of humanity should
receive such a high rating.
It is amazing what the brain can do when one uses it
for the betterment of himself and those around him.
13. REYNOLDS AND DUARTE TIPS:
Simplicity
Just enough information to fulfill the audiences
needs.
14. Sir Kens speech was driven by humor as opposed to S.
Hawkings speech which was very direct,
informative, and fact driven.
15. Sir Kens 2nd speech could be deemed more entertaining
considering the art involved. Hawking kept his
audience engaged as the topic seemingly has more
depth and severity.
16. In my opinion, the keys to a successful speech are:
Content
Delivery
and a little bit of Humor
