Open enrollment for health insurance plans through the Marketplace begins on October 1, 2013 and continues until March 31, 2014. Coverage for plans selected during open enrollment will begin on January 1, 2014 if enrollment is completed by December 15, 2013. The Marketplace offers private health insurance plans that cover essential health benefits like doctor visits, prescriptions, and preventative care. Financial assistance in the form of tax credits is available to help offset the cost of premiums based on family size and income. Marketplace plans have four levels - bronze, silver, gold, and platinum - that cover between 60-90% of healthcare costs with higher level plans covering a higher percentage of costs.

cover a core set of essential health benefits.
You may be eligible for the Advance Premium Tax Credit. The tax credit can
be applied directly to your monthly premium. The amount you save depends
on your family size and how much money your family earns. You wont be
able to get your exact costs for a specific plan until you fill out an application
after October 1. Until then, you can estimate your savings with this financial
calculator: http://kff.org/interactive/subsidy-calculator.

premium plans cover a
