Glassblowing has existed in Hebron for thousands of years. Traditionally, glass was made from sand and soda ash, but now it is primarily made from recycled glass. Workers collect used glass, smash it into pieces, and heat it in ovens until it becomes liquid. They then blow the liquid glass through pipes to make shapes like the dark blue jugs and vases Hebron is famous for. Using recycled glass helps the environment by reducing waste and pollution while also requiring less fuel to heat than sand.
