Heroin is an addictive opioid drug that can be ingested or injected in several ways. It causes an initial rush of euphoria followed by drowsiness, vomiting, and depressed breathing. Long-term use leads to collapsed veins, infections, liver disease, and overdose. The majority of the world's heroin is grown in Afghanistan and it impacts over 600,000 people annually in the United States through addiction and drug-related deaths.
