The role of innovation in the
improvement of the healthcare
system
6th Health Innovation Conference
1
Main healthcare challenges
Innovation is key to prevent rising cost of healthcare in the future
Rising costs
Ageing
population
Chronic
diseases
Healthcare costs are increasing and
healthcare as it is today is
unsustainable - health spending per
capita is increasing by around 1.9%
each year (compared to 0.6% annual
growth rate).1 COVID-19 is increasing
system cost even further.
Life expectancy in the EU-27 between
2002-2018 increased by 3.3 years,
from 77.7 to 81 years 2 driven by
demography changes.
Rising number of chronic diseases and
comorbidities - 87% of all deaths in
the EU.3 Many cases of chronic
diseases are preventable and linked to
four common risk factors — tobacco,
harmful use of alcohol, nutrition and
lack of physical activity.

IQVIA global experience with Government organizations
IQVIA is working with many governmental institutions and
organizations across the globe
• IQVIA E360 platform has been used and developed by the CPRD for over 5 years increasing the
efficiency and analytical capability to ingest, analyse and deliver data.
• Delivery of both standard E360 Applications and bespoke trial design and execution applications
• Enabled the client to study drug utilisation and prescribing patterns at primary care setting, as well as
burden of disease and disease incidence and prevalence across the UK
• Long term user of E360 platform and associated tools
• Delivering important insights across a large US dataset
• Key access to data to create definable and executable cohorts
• E360 on a framework for the EMA to deliver rapid descriptive studies
• IQVIA E360 Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform for quick returns (potentially within a day) on
patient counts and basic descriptive analytics, with options for more advanced analytic tools and
different service levels.
• A high-end user of the E360 platform for public health research on AEMR linked with PMTX+
• Interrogation of both the platform and IQVIA datasets
• Delivering important insights over sustained period of time
