o In 1797, Mission San Fernando was founded in the Encino Grant o In 1833, the Mexican government secularizes Misson San Fernando. Photo Courtesy of Wikipedia
o 1849: Vicente de la Ossa purchases a third of Rancho Los Encinos o 1850: de la Ossa begins construction of his adobe hacienda: o 1857: Rancho El Encino is a successful grazing area and rest stop for travelers.

o 1869: El Encino is sold to the Garnier Brothers. o Rancho El Encino becomes a thriving sheep ranch, shipping quality wool the world over. o 1876: A drought in the area sends the Garniers to France o 1877: Overdue taxes cause the rancho to be auctioned.
o 1887: Deed of the property is transferred to Domingo Amestoy. o 1910: His sons, Peter and John, began subdividing the ranch. o 1915: W.H. Hay buys the Rancho for a price of over $1,000,000. o 1920-1945: A population pressure on the valley led to the development of Encino.

Encino Today The economy of Encino is based on health care, social services and professional services. Professional services area include accounting, real estate, and legal services.
Encino Commons o Encino is home to Encino Commons, the valleys answer to Miracle Mile o Encino Commons is a collection of eateries, shops, and theaters.
Los Encinos State Historic Park o The State Park is is a 5-acre nature park that includes the de la Ossa Adobe, a blacksmiths shop, and a natural spring.
