An atheist named George Hull created a 10-foot tall petrified man hoax in 1869 by carving a gypsum block to look like a giant man, burying it for a year on a farm, and then having it "discovered" to trick people into thinking it was evidence against the Bible. The hoax initially fooled many but was eventually exposed, becoming one of the most famous hoaxes in American history known as the Cardiff Giant.
