- 2. Holi (爐項爐迦) is a spring festival also known as the festival of colours or the festival of love. It is celebrated at the end of the winter season on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalgun (February/March)
- 3. Traditionally, Holi consisted of religious rites and prayers to good crops and fertile land. Hindus believe it is a time of enjoying spring's abundant colours and saying farewell to winter.
- 4. It also has a religious purpose, symbolically signified by the legend of Holika. The values of the party(mutual respect and tolerance) make this festival have a deeper meaning. It is said that also commemorates the love(Kamadeva god of love) and chases away evil spirits
- 5. The night before Holi, bonfires are lit, in a ceremony known as Holika Dahan (burning of Holika ) or Little Holi. People gather near fires, sing and dance. The next day, Holi is celebrated.
- 6. Children spray coloured powder solutions (Gulal) at each other, laugh and celebrate, while elders tend to smear dry coloured powder (Abir) on each other's face. After playing with colours, and cleaning up, people bathe, put on clean clothes, visit friends and family.
- 7. The colors have medicinal components. Spring in India, is the time where people suffer more colds and viral fever. It is a tradition throw herbal powders with "nim", "kumkum" and "Khaldi," among other components.
- 8. In 2013, Holi One Color Festival had 300.000 guest, in 10 countries and 35 cities. Holi is growing fast in Europe and in the US. A lot of cities celebrate the arrival of warm weather with the celebration of Holi.The two most important festivals are: One Color Holi Festival (England) and Festival of Colours (Germany).
