Preventive Maintenance Tips
  Before the Cold Season
If you dont feel 100% comfortable
with performing some of the following
 home interior fall maintenance tips -

Get a professional help if necessary!

      Remember - Safety First!
Evaluate your
 houses attic for
     signs of
leaks, moisture, a
     nd mold
Make sure you
check attic vents
       for
 contamination
and clean them if
  necessary to
   improve air
   circulation.
Make sure your
  bathroom and
    dryer vent
 discharge to the
houses exterior /
not into the attic!
Clothes dryers
contaminate your
     attic with
lint, tremendous
   amounts of
  moisture, and
 pose fire hazard
Cover exposed
 sections of attic
     floor with
   insulation to
prevent migration
  of warmer air
from conditioned
 space into your
        attic
Insulate forced
 air system air
ducts located in
 the attic area
Have your
furnace serviced
 before winter 
 ask your HVAC
   guy about
 combustion air
 requirements 
important safety
     issue!
Replace air
filters on regular
basis and check
air registers and
 air ducts boots
      directly
 underneath the
   registers for
  contamination
Make sure that
   whole house
  humidifiers are
    clean and
functional before
 the cold season
Replace clothes
dryer plastic vent
 hoses and clean
  an entire vent
pipe between the
dryer and exterior
 vent termination
Check
   non-heated
crawlspace area
    for water
 pipes, insulate
 them or install
   heat tape if
   necessary
Dont close
    crawlspace
exterior vents for
 the cold season
if it contains any
  non-direct vent
  type fossil fuel
       burning
     appliances
Check your
fireplace damper
    for proper
  operation and
make sure there
are no bird nests
 on top of it. Get
  your chimney
    inspected!
If your fireplace
does not include
     exterior
 combustion air
    supplying
   channel you
should consider
such installation
Check MFG. date
 on smoke and
    Carbon
   Monoxide
   detectors!
Smoke  10 years max.
CO  may vary (usually
   4-6 years max)
Replace smoke
and CO detector
backup batteries
at least once per
       year.
  More often if
    necessary!
Test smoke and
Carbon Monoxide
 detectors every
      week.

      Install
 interconnected
    devices if
     possible
