The document provides instructions for students to participate in a home visit with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. It instructs students to contact a parish leader to schedule accompanying experienced members on a home visit. After the visit, students are asked to write a 1-2 page reflection on their experience and feelings visiting a poor family's home. It also provides contact information for students to join members on scheduled home visits on Saturdays.

1. Home Visit with Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mac Johnson, St. Robert Bellarmine Chapel
Instructor, Christian Social Justice (LPC 128)
1.) In your parish, contact a leader for the Parish Conference of the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Ask to participate, with 1 or 2 other
experienced Vincentians, in an actual Home Visit.
Ask the appropriate leader to call you soon, so you might
accompany them for a Home Visit, which they schedule. See 2p
handout: St. Vincent de Paul Society, describing this parish social
ministry.
2.) Go on this Home Visit encounter.
Reflection Exercise (Write 1 - 2 pages, hand in, after your Home Visit):
3.) a.) Journey Outward: Write down a description of your experience to
share with our class. What is happening to this family? Why?
b.) Journey Inward: Notice your feelings about this border-crossing
experience visiting the home of a poor family. Describe these
feelings about this invitation, and then about the actual encounter.
