The Ring
The ring is a Syuzhet film, the film is opened by two teens sat on a bed, the opening automatically
tells me that this is going to be a horror. I know this because there is a house with flickering lights
opening the scene, It looks as if the house is in the middle of a wood or on the outskirts of a town,
looks very spooky and haunted. The teens are wearing black and white, these colours indicate to me
that they are danger, or going to be in danger, Black indicated death and sorrow and White indicates
purity, indicates they are school girls, wearing uniform. An enigma code which is brought to mind is
why are the teens sat in the room? Why is it dull? One of the girls are talking about a tape that if you
watch it, it kills you, this is creepy as you have a feeling what is going to happen, and iconography is
that they’re going to watch this tape, will they die?, what’s going to happen to them next?Close ups
on their faces, Eye line match of their faces to the clock and telephone. What’s the blue light that is
shining through the window?, why is it there? Why is the door opening on its own?
Now Is good
Misty mirror, as tessa wipes it clean, non diegetic sounding of slow calming and relaxing music as the
film starts. Fabula narrative, Why are they talking about the blonde one? What are they planning to
do?, why is tessa wearing a wig? Why has she wrote ‘sex’ on the mirror? Tessas friend and the boy
kissing, icons that they are going to have sex. This makes me feel uncomfortable because they are
underage. She is wearing a red dress this indicates, love and death. Non diegetic music while she is
walking down the street, things are coming over the top of the film, this signifies teen, comic, the
street turns into a cartoon and looks as if the film is going to be in cartoon, this icons that the film is
going to be about her as she is the one running down the middle of the street. What is she writing?,
why is she writing on her wall? Why are they sat at a radio station? Is she poorly? Tessa has hardly
any hair on her head this signifies to me she may have an illness such as cancer or alopecia.
