Horses have hooves to keep their feet clean and protect them from injury. Their hooves get tougher as they grow older. Horses also have manes that act as armor when stallions fight and help shake off flies, and provide riders with something to hold onto. Additional facts about horses include that they can sleep standing up or lying down, run shortly after birth, have 205 bones, and have larger eyes than any other land mammal.
