A documentary is a non-fiction film that captures reality. To create a documentary, one must choose a topic they are passionate about, research the topic thoroughly, create a plan by outlining the story and capturing techniques, shoot from various angles to tell the story, edit the footage together using software, and distribute the finished documentary online, through DVDs or television.

Steps to create a documentary
Choose a story or subject you care about. Choose a story that means something to you. You should be really passionate about the topic, otherwise it will be dificult to do the final movie.
Research After selecting the desired topic you should do a lot of research about it, you can read books, surf on the web, etc. Learn everything you can about your documentary subject. Find specific details to make the documentary very interesting.
Make a plan Create an outline. Think about how youre going to tell your story. Write about the characters, style, How are you going to catch the audiences attention, etc.
Start shooting You should be aware of how the documentary is going to be viewed, because that can dictate your shooting and storytelling style. Make sure when you're shooting an event to capture a variety of angles.
Editing It is the funniest part, because you will have to put together the parts as a puzzle. Special editing computers and software will be needed.
Distribution There are a many forms to distribute your movie: Throught the internet, DVDs, television, etc.
