The Story of Deaconess
Andrew

Everybody loves Dns.
Andrew in the church and at
her work because of her zeal
and commitment.
Dns. is a generous person.
She visits, counsels, teaches
and serves passionately.

Her Pastor nicknamed her as
Consider It Done (CID). They
also call her “First to arrive…
last to leave”.
In her work place, her
colleagues praise her for
being hardworking and
supportive.

While Dns. Andrew is still being
celebrated outside, her life and
her home are falling apart.
For a long time she has been
feeling physically drained and
emotionally exhausted. Her
devotional life is also very sick.

Her husband, who comes
around only on weekend, has
been accusing her of neglecting
the family.
Recently, while she was away for
a conference her teenage son
raped their housemaid when his
sister sneaked out to attend a
party.

What can Dns.
Andrew to stop her
life and her home from
being completely
destroyed ?

To live an unbalance life is to..
replace relationship with
work or work with play.
detach yourself from people,
things or issues that would
enable you fulfill your
purpose.
pursue the temporal at the
expense of the eternal.

What are some
common factors
provoke the loss of
balance…

Wants: Our desires could make us
lose focus. Wishes that are
disguised as needs usually cause
leaders to run after what they do
not need.
Words: What other people say
about us could cause us to lose
balance. Flattery, innuendoes, lies or
slander can provoke the pursuit of
shadows.

Pursing Wealth: Leaders whose
decisions are not driven by God
honouring values will live in
ways that edges God out.
Wrong Understanding: Leaders
who don’t understand their
ministry distinctiveness and
aptitudes will most likely run
after the assignments of others.

Spiritual Warfare: Satan and his
demons are also waging war
with the intention of
destabilizing you, God’s
anointed.
Poor Time management Skills:
Confusing the important with
the urgent can lead to loss of
balance.

Detachment from God: Those
who make idols out of people,
systems and organizations will
definitely go astray.
Hunger for Significance – The
desire to constantly attract
attention or receive the applause
of men will cause any leader to
lose balance.

Confusing material
provision with effective
parenting.
Putting Ministry above
Marriage. Treating your
spouse as an office staff.

Putting Money above
Mission/Ministry
Putting your position
above responsibility.
Putting accomplishments

Balance….

Restoring balance would
demand that you…
Define your priorities:
Adopt Concentric cycle of
godly lifestyle.
Determining your priorities
will help you say ‘no’ to
whatever competes with
your values.

Learn to say no. It is OK to
respectfully say no. Quit
accepting tasks out of guilt or a
false sense of obligation.
Delegate and outsource tasks.
You’ll have more time for family,
and friends, if you spend less
time working on tasks others
can perform well.

Communicate: Share your call with
your family. They need to
understand what you do and why
you do it. Listen to them too.
Schedule out all of your time in
advance: Day planners aren’t just
for meetings use them for
scheduling blocks of personal time,
too.

Set aside times to unplug.
Turn off your phone, and take
the time to enjoy your family
and friends when office hours
are over.
Evaluate: Remember you are
work in progress. Submit
yourself for examination.

In Conclusion
you must work towards
restoring and
maintaining balance so
as to be an effective
witness of the word.
